Muddy Hell - 30th October 2010

It’s back! Rollapaluza and Knog present “Muddy Hell” 2010 - night time Halloween Cyclo Cross. Entries have already filled up but its a great night out for spectators of all ages too. Watch as riders (many in fancy dress) struggle, slip and slide over the obstacles Rollapaluza are constructing specially for the event. We’ve heard rumors of some pretty special course features, keep your eyes here - we’ll put some photos up once they start building!

Spectator entry is free, and there will be food and drink stands to keep you going until the finish at 10pm.

Full timings and more details on www.rollapaluza.com/cross

This is the biggest event of the year at Herne Hill Velodrome - make sure you’re there!

2011 Calendar Competition

We know there are plenty of people taking some great photos of the action at Herne Hill Velodorme. We, and the riders want to see it! So we’ve set up our 2011 calendar competition. Take your best photos in 2011 (and the last few months of 2010 to give you a change to catch some of the cyclo cross season), upload them, and send us a link to the ones you’d like considered.  At the end of October 2011 the judges will pick their favorate 12 photos and we’ll print a limited calendar run. All proceeds will go to the Save the Velodrome campaign and they’ll be available in time to make the perfect Christmas present!

  • Photos must be taken between October 2010 - October 2011
  • Ask permission from riders if they are clearly identifiable in the photos
  • Do not take any closeup pictures of children
  • We can’t offer any money for your photo’s inclusion, but will happily print your name and web address (if applicable) on the photo
  • We want the calendar to have a range of photos covering the whole spectrum of cycling at Herne Hill, training and racing sessions for track and cycle cross!

Send submissions to photos@hernehillvelodrome.com

Secondly its a good time to remind everyone of the Herne Hill Velodrome Flickr Group. Please add any photos you’ve taken on site to the group so everyone can see them. This would be a good time to have a look through your old favourates and link them too. If anyone has any old photos (either digital or printed), but don’t have a flickr acount we would be happy to upload them for you - contact us on the email above.

Save the Velodrome!

‘Save the Velodrome’ Campaign launches today with an open invitation to a public meeting.

An alliance of residents and cyclists has been formed to save a former Olympic stadium from closure. The Herne Hill Velodrome is the oldest cycling track in the country and the home of the 1948 Olympic Cycling Championships. But now it faces closure due to deterioration and lack of funding. There is no alternative track in London for the hundreds of children who ride and race there. In the past, that has included Bradley Wiggins, the three-time Olympic gold medallist, who began his competitive cycling career at Herne Hill. Read the rest of this entry »

London Championships - Results Out

Pictures here - from Rollapaluza’s Different Spokes

Results here: Under 12, Over 12, Women, Men, Team Results

After a grey morning where Herne Hill’s Saturday morning training session was mostly canceled due to persistent drizzle, the sun burnt through the cloads at around 2pm, and stayed out all day. Not too hot, a light breeze – perfect racing conditions. The riders would need the best conditions possible to get through a packed “Olympic omnium” programme consisting of flying 200m, individual pursuit, points race, kilo, devil and scratch race. As well as this there were also team sprint and team pursuit events, giving London’s teams a chance to battle it out. Read the rest of this entry »
