Herne Hill Velodrome - Iconic cycling track in South East London catering for riders of all ages and abilities Managed by VCL on behalf of British cycling

Going for Gold Open Day

Going for Gold, Sunday the 24th of June. A very special Pre-Olympic party in collaboration with the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

At the Velodrome end there's vintage cycles on the track (11 to 11.30), a chance for younger kids to ride their own bikes on both the track and MTB course (11.30 to 12.30) and a kids fancy dress parade up cordoned off streets to the Gallery (1pm). Plus, for the first time ever, the Rollapaluza Youth Championships! Free to enter but with big prizes in the Under 12 and Under 16 boys and girls categories (12 till the final showdowns at 4pm). And of course on the track from 1 till 5 it's the famous Brixton Super Madison Meeting, with a beer tent, food stalls and cycle jumble it's one of the big events that make up the Herne Hill Super series.

At the Gallery end there's sculpture and live music and merry-go-rounds and falconry diplays and art workshops and more food and drink and 1948 Olympic memorabilia and talks from both 1948 medalist Tommy Godwin and the great Wally Happy (12 to 1.30). Tommy is going to judge the fancy dress then lead a parade back to the Velodrome at 2.30 to do a lap of honour in the Brixton meet at 3pm.

Two venues: one big day out for everybody!
