Winter Schedule 2014/15 (November - February)

With our all weather track surface and track lighting we try to keep as many sessions as possible going all winter.  Use the timetable and session descriptions below to see what's on offer.  We do not have any beginner induction sessions scheduled over the winter - email us if you're interested in trying the track for the first time and we'll arrange a session when there's enough interest.

See the session pathway page for more information on which sessions might be appropriate for your ability. You will need a Herne Hill Training Accreditation to attend Intermediate sessions. Being an outdoor track Herne Hill is subject to the whims of the weather, please see our wet weather Policy. Public Sessions are open to anyone of the appropriate age/gender and level of experience, you don’t need to be a club member.  We do not take advanced bookings for any of these sessions, just turn up on the day.

Winter Track Training

10:00 – 11:00

Youth Track Riding


General track skills for youth riders aged 8 - 16. We have bikes that will fit an average 8 year old. They must be capable of riding on their own, unassisted in a safe manner and able to follow simple instructions

11:00 – 13:00

Intermediate Track Chaingang

Adults: £7, U18s: £3

Training Accreditation Needed

Keep fit riding your track bike through the winter, ready for the season to start up again in spring.  These sessions will include a range of different drills and exercises for intermediate level track riders.  There won’t be many breaks as we don’t want riders getting too cold!

13:00 – 14:00

Track Skills Session


Adults: £7, U18s: £3

Work on all the basics of track riding. The pace is not too strenuous so these sessions are also ideal if you just want to do some non-competitive riding. You must have completed an induction before joining this session


Youth Mountain-Biking

Beginners and Improvers 

Minimum age of six applies  We ask that parents of children under 8 must stay during the session.   We also ask that you come to the 10 am session if you are coming for the first time.

Frog-Bikes Kids Sessions

The perfect place for kids to improve their bike riding skills from a young age.

(Inner/Junior Track)

Frog Bikes Session          

£3 per child

Our 250m Junior track is the perfect place to learn and improve their skills. Our coaches will teach a range of skills and techniques, as well as organising some fun games and races. Bikes and helmets are available to use free of charge, though it's best for your kids to use their own bikes if they can


Women's Track Training

17:00 – 19:00

Women only

Adults: £7, U18s: £3

Learn and practice track riding for skills and fitness in a less testosterone-fueled atmosphere! All abilities catered for in a friendly & accessible atmosphere. Speed, skills and fitness all focused on every Sunday. Inductions and hire bikes available for all women. Suitable for newcomers to track riding, and women who already race.



Inclusive Cycling with Wheels for Wellbeing

These session are run by the charity wheels for well-being and take place on our inner track.  All participants should be careful crossing the main track as it may be in use for other sessions.

Especially beneficial for people who have difficulty with mobility or balance, who lack road safety awareness, or who cannot deal with traffic by themselves.  Our wide variety of adaptive cycles, from tandems to hand cycles, enable everyone to enjoy cycling with us.

Girls Only Training

Girls’ Track Training 12 – 18yr olds


Learn and practice track riding for skills and fitness in a less testosterone-fueled atmosphere! All abilities catered for from first time track riders to aspiring racers. Inductions available.

Race Training

19:00 – 21:00

Training Accreditation Needed

This is training specifically aimed at those who wish to race, or are already racing. Where the ins and outs of track racing are explained and learned, tactics and skills refined. In the winter we will ride as one group and have fewer/shorter breaks


Strider Balance Bike Sessions (Ages 2 – 5)

Come and learn to ride a bike in safe environment with other kids. Strider have kindly donated 10 balance bike for us to use for these sessions

09:00 – 10:30

Inner/Junior Track

2 – 5 year olds

£3 per rider

Drop in any time between 9am and 10.30 to teach your child to ride a bike. Our 250m Junior track is the perfect place to learn. The kids are visible at all times, and unlike your local park their aren't dogs, people playing ball games or other distractions.  Balance bikes and helmets are available to use free of charge


Over 40s and Women’s Drop in Session

9:00 – 10:00

Over 40s & Women


We’ve added this mid-week session this year to cater for riders wanting to use the track when it is quieter.  Inductions are available, but there will also be more advanced drills/exercises for experienced riders. Inductions available

University Students’ Session

17:30 – 18:30

Students Session


A session for any current university students.  A chance to learn to ride the track and improve your skills, speed and fitness. Inductions available

Women’s Turbo Training

19:00 – 21:00

Women only Turbo Training

Get out of the cold and wet and come and train with other riders.  Our coaches have prepared various different sessions to keep riders fit and fast during the winter, ready for the season starting again in spring. Turbo trainers provided, bring your own bike.


Youth Track Riding

18:00 – 19:30

Youth Club Members Track Training


Youth training for club-level riders aged 10 - 15 looking to compete. This is the perfect place for youth riders to put some effort in and improve fitness and skills.  The sessions are shorter in winter so you don’t get too cold
