herne hill velodrome: gcse track cycling
Feel the rush of the velodrome with our revamped GCSE PE Track Cycling Programme — three action-packed, two-hour sessions of expert coaching and performance assessment held on our 450m outdoor track.
In the first session, students master the fundamentals of riding a fixed-wheel track bike, learning the art of smooth pedalling, group riding, and confident control on the banking. Sessions two and three turn up the speed, introducing time trials and thrilling race formats tailored to meet GCSE PE assessment criteria.
Led by British Cycling–qualified coaches, our passionate team will inspire students to embrace the excitement, discipline, and strategy of this Olympic sport — helping schools bring the ‘new sport’ element of the PE GCSE to life.
Students should already be competent cyclists before enrolling in this programme, and must attend both days to be eligible for assessment and grading.
Our team provides all equipment, expert coaching, assessment, and grading, while teachers are responsible for recording the footage required for external moderation.
Designed for Schools. Built for Students.
Perfect for GCSE PE.
This 6-hour introductory cycling programme gives students a hands-on, high-energy experience that directly supports the practical performance component of GCSE PE — perhaps even sparking a lifelong love for track cycling.
Students will be evaluated on key performance skills — starting, accelerating, maintaining speed, line-holding, group riding, and controlled stopping — as they develop technical precision, tactical awareness, and competitive focus.
From isolated skill drills to heart-racing race scenarios, this programme challenges and excites in equal measure — offering a unique, unforgettable way to achieve GCSE success.
Testimonials:
I just wanted to pass on a massive thank you for the experience you gave to our boys. They really enjoyed and learnt alot from the three sessions. It has definitely encouraged me to consider developing an ongoing link.
As a teacher of 11 years I have worked with many coaches and external organisations. The quality of the sessions, the planning and the communication with the students is some of the best I have seen. Please keep it up!
