Home Educators SESSIONS

We run cycling sessions every Wednesday specifically for Home Educators. Read on for more information about the different sessions we run.

From Learn to Cycle all the way through to Track riding, HHV is a hub for Home Educators every Wednesday morning and lunchtime. You can use our clubroom for activities and lessons while a different age group gets to grip with two wheels in our sessions coached by experienced coaches.

Learn to Cycle

From complete beginners to those starting out with pedals, we have balance bikes and pedal-less bikes in a range of sizes and hire of these (and helmets) is included in the cost of the session.  All riders must be accompanied by a parent, carer or guardian who will be expected to be hands-on in the session.

Pedal Bike Club

Pedal Bike Club is designed to improve skills and technique through a variety of fun exercises and games. Optional Frog bike and helmet hire is included in the cost of the session but you are welcome to bring your own bike and helmet.  Riders must be able to pedal, start and stop without assistance and using brakes and no stabilisers are permitted.

Wednesdays 12pm - 1pm

Cycle Skills

These sessions are the next step up from our Pedal Bike Club and will be run on our off-road trails for some extra challenge.  Parents are welcome to join in too!

If your child is under 8, please attend a pedal bike club session first and speak to the coach to see if they are ready for these more advanced sessions.

Optional Frog/mountain bike and helmet hire is included in the cost of the session but you are welcome to bring your own bike and helmet.

Wednesdays 11am-12pm

Home Educators Track Cycling

This session is for anyone over the age of 8 (parents included) who would like to have a go at riding on the banked track of the velodrome.  No previous experience is required as our experienced British Cycling qualified track coaches are on hand to teach you the basics on your first visit.

Initially you will learn how to start, stop and ride a fixed gear track specific bike before venturing up onto the banked track and progressing to some fun games and exercises designed to build confidence and further develop skills and fitness.  Sessions will focus on the different group riding, bike handling and observational skills that are used in track cycling.

  • Participants must be at least 8 years old to ride on the track.

  • Lycra is not required, although we recommend that you don’t wear anything too baggy - layers are recommended, as well as a warm jacket for after. Remember to bring water and a snack.

  • Gloves must be worn

  • Hire bikes are available and included in the cost.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the session start time to get a bike and get comfortable to ensure that the session can start promptly
