HHV Schools CHAMPIONSHIP

Teams of three riders RACING BIKES for school GLORY!

What is the schools championship?

The HHV Schools Championship is an annual racing event in March for schools to enter teams of three riders aged 8-18yrs.

Racing is split into age categories and there are separate prizes for girls and boys teams.

Last year 170 riders from 24 schools entered, some local, some from further afield, some HHV regulars, some not.

No or little experience riding fixed wheel track bikes here? No problem - just get in touch at least a month or two in advance of the event to arrange for some training.

Teachers, classmates, family and friends are encouraged to come down and support the young riders and the cafe is open all afternoon to keep you refreshed.

What events are included?

The race formats are relatively simple and feature events familiar with young track riders: Flying 200s, Scratch races, Kierin, Chase Races and, of course, the 3 rider Team Pursuits.

Prizes are awarded for the top scoring teams in each category, for the overall highest scoring school and for some non-performance based achievements.

  • Riders must have completed a Track Taster and some Track Skills sessions in advance of the day to ensure that they are safe to race our fixed wheel track bikes on the banked track of the velodrome.

If your riders have not ridden on the track before, get in touch with us with plenty of time to arrange some training in advance of the event.

Riders are encouraged to ride their own fixed wheel track bikes if they have them and bring their own helmets and gloves (which must be worn when riding). All can be borrowed if needed.

If you only have one or two riders you can still enter and we will put them together with other young riders in a similar position.
