What is Cyclocross?
Cyclocross started out as a winter training sport for road cyclists in the early 20th century, riding road bikes off-road. It quickly grew into a sport in its own right. Today, CX bikes have a similar geometry to road bikes, but with slightly wider grippier tyres and more frame clearance for mud. The result is a much slower race, perfect for watching the pain on participants’ faces, and heckling - er - cheering them on!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Got 2.5 hours to donate to the velodrome?
We’re after some event stewards to help visitors (especially new ones) feel welcome.
If you love the velodrome, a great way to support us is to give some time.
It looks like we’re going to have a busy evening with lots of new people so if you’re able to help us out, we could use a hand (preferably not disembodied!)
Volunteers will get free frites and hot drinks as a thank you.
£5 DRIP BIKE WASH 💧
The rumours are true, we are now the proud early adopters of a bike wash machine by Drip. Founders Rob and David will be at Muddy Hell to show you how the machine works. No brushes, just foam, water, and pressure.
Watch the video of how it works here.
£5 per wash, and all proceeds go to the velodrome! Clean your bike and support HHV. Now that’s a win/win.

PUMPKIN PATCH DASH
Thu 7 Nov
10am - 1pm
Join us for our new Halloween balance bike celebration, the Pumpkin Patch Dash!
We’ll have face‑painting, drawing and painting, and of course plenty of cycling — all included in the ticket price. At HHV, we love balance biking and want to celebrate the freedom it gives young riders, with you.
Who’s it for?
This event is for children aged 2–8 years, whether they’re brand new to balance bikes or already confident riders. Children who can already ride pedal bikes are very welcome and can still enjoy the fast and furious racing.
Each child needs their own ticket.
Parents/guardians do not need to buy tickets for themselves.
The wrong bike on the wrong terrain - what’s the worst that could happen?
