HHV’s Trails Need a Hand!

〰️

HHV’s Trails Need a Hand! 〰️

Our verdant oasis in South London needs your help. The trees and trails at HHV require maintenance and upgrades. For decades they have been going it on their own, but an increased appetite for off-road opportunities demands increased safety on our trails - for trees and riders alike.

The solution? Pitch in to our crowdfund!

HHV is now fundraising for:

🌿 Baby tree planting to strengthen our tree canopy

🌼 Clearing rubble and planting meadows

🧱 Removing bricks and debris to prevent punctures

🛠️ Repairing worn sections and slopes for safety

🚿 Upgrading the bike wash area with rainwater capture and better water pressure

Help grow our off-road offering

Each donation becomes an entry to win an off-road party for you and 10 of your friends!

GIVE US A PIECE OF YOUR MIND

It's our first ever Impact Survey!

One of the best and easiest ways to help HHV is to take a few minutes to give us your opinions.

This survey is 7 questions and your thoughts will help us apply for grants and gain sponsors.

Help us diversify our income streams and fill out our feedback form.

Bike Theft alerts

There has been an increase in suspicious activity at the velodrome and surrounding areas. We are in touch with our local councillors to talk about the issue, but in the meantime, please be sure to lock your bike securely every time you visit the velodrome. Thieves wait for the one time that you let your guard down.

If you see anything suspicious, please let a member of staff know immediately. If you can’t find one of us, please call 111 to report suspicious activity, or 999 in an emergency (i.e. if a crime is taking place).

We have CCTV recording around the site: please also note the time and location and email info@hernehillvelodrome.com

CALENDAR SWITCH Alert

The dipping sun in the sky (if you can see it), and the bite in the breeze…you know what that signals?

It’s calendar switchover time! This will mainly affect evening track sessions during the week, but do check our calendar before planning to come along.

NAME OUR ROBOMOWER CONTEST

Yes, you heard that right, we are now in possession of a fancy Husqvarna robot lawnmower (like an outdoor Roomba) and the only thing it’s missing is a name (and googly eyes).

Entries now open for your suggestions. The team will pick their top 10 for a final public vote next month.

The Fastest Bicycle Film

A new documentary film, featuring VCL rider Noah Phillips, will be showing at the Brixton Ritzy cinema

Sunday 12 October 2025 at 4pm

The film follows the London-based team who built the bike and took it to the Nevada desert to attempt the World Human Powered Speed Challenge. VCL member, Noah Phillips, who may be known to some of you, has been involved in the project as part of the engineering team and also piloted the bike during the speed challenge. Michael B Clifford is a BAFTA award-winning director and has made this documentary following the project. At the screening there will be a Q&A, a chance to see the bikes featured in the film and to meet the creators, director and producer and cast members.

hERNE hILL HISTORY BUFFS

Saturday 20th September

Herne Hill Heritage Trail: Central

WALK TIME: 2.30pm

North Dulwich station, Red Post Hill SE24 7BX

“We commence at North Dulwich Station, and walk along Half Moon Lane, passing the Grafton Ballroom, a cryptic wall plaque, a mysterious folly, a house that has had three distinguished residents but has only two blue plaques, a grand viaduct, and a sports field that has its own war memorial. We finish at the spectacular Herne Hill Velodrome, which is the oldest cycle track in the UK, and was used for the 1948 Olympics. Today it is a hive of activity, and will take your breath away (especially if you are racing for the finishing line).”
