HOMEGROWN HEROES
Isabelle Escalera
“After growing up at Herne Hill Velodrome through my youth and junior years, I moved to Spain searching for a future with the Spanish national track team. I now compete with the best riders in the world, am a multiple national record holder and champion, and medalist in the U23 European madison championships. Super excited to be back racing at my home velodrome and no doubt the atmosphere will be crazy and will make for some great racing!”
Martha Crooks
“I’m Martha, I’m 17 and I’ve been riding/ racing at Herne Hill Velodrome since I was around 9. I’ve always loved coming to the velodrome to not only train but also catch up with friends. It’s one of my favourite places to ride my bike and I have so many memories from riding here. If I’m not on the bike, you can also find me coaching the younger kids at holiday clubs, pedal bike sessions and learn to cycle sessions!”
ex-rOWERS
Mathilde Pauls
“Still fairly new to track (second year) with a background in rowing prior to starting cycling more, now 10 yrs ago, I have enjoyed the track.
Herne Hill has a ‘particular place in my heart’ because it’s the first track I was ever on back at school as a rower (and the atmosphere is great!)
In the rest of my life I am a doctor (Neurologist, mostly stroke) - so it’s busy. But the bike is a great distraction!”
Yewie Adesida
“I've been racing bikes for a few years (with a couple of breaks in between), having switched over from rowing. Track is my favourite discipline and I'm getting back into endurance events but my favourite event is still the keirin, which is a nice mix of sprint and endurance!
Outside of cycling I work in wearable tech and do some strength and conditioning and rowing coaching.”
RIDERS NEAR & FAR
Red Walters
“I’m Red Walters, and I represent Grenada. It’s been a bit of a track comeback for me this summer as I was only road focused for the last few years. But I’m loving be back in the velodrome, and I’m chasing an ambitious goal of qualifying for world champs. It’s gonna be close, but SLGP is my last chance for points before the cut off. I love racing bikes in all forms, but I arrive on the start line with absolute focus. My saying is ‘determination is infinite’.”
Conor White
A cyclist from Bermuda, specialising in both road and track racing. A multiple-time national champion, he races for the British team Muc‑Off‑SRCT‑Storck and has represented Bermuda at the World Championships, Pan American Games, and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games — earning medals at both the Pan Am and CAC Games — as well as winning the Caribbean Time Trial Championships twice.
Lydia Turan
17 year old Lydia lives in Sheffield and competes regularly in junior women’s races, most recently placing 4th at the Melton Olympic Spring Crit. She has represented Türkiye at the Junior European Track championship and Balkan championships.
William Munday
William Munday is a track sprinter from Kent, UK.
He is a former British Junior Kierin National champion and former Scottish elite champion.
He races for Star Track UCI trade team who are based in New York City.
TRACK LEAGUE REGULARS
Szilard Gacso
Reigning champion of HHV Track League 2024 and enthusiastic amateur from Hungary.
Luke Marshall-Waterfield
Velodrome dad, HHV track league most improved rider 2023, winner of the giant marrow prime at the 2021 SERRL circuit race (DNF).
Arthur Tye
“Had my first HHV track league season this year and have been having a great time.
Started racing in 2013 after quitting smoking and cutting my long hair off. Big life change for the better!
My goal is simply to enjoy riding and racing.”
